Why I Chose the Gskyer 600x90 Telescope

When I first started exploring the night sky, I wanted a telescope that was beginner-friendly, affordable, and easy to set up. The Gskyer Telescope 600x90mm AZ quickly caught my eye. It seemed like the perfect blend of performance and simplicity for someone just starting their stargazing journey. After spending some time with it, I’m here to share my personal experience and help you decide if it’s the right telescope for you.

My Favorite Features of the Gskyer 600x90mm AZ

  • Aperture: This telescope has an aperture of 90mm which makes it produce clear and distinct images of astrophysical objects. I have been able to distinguish the craters on the moon and the rings of Saturn to a very clear extent.

  • Focal Length: The 600mm focal length is quite reasonable I think, which allows me to observe both vast portions of the sky and the details of planetary objects.

  • Mount: The AZ mount is the simplest one and therefore is easy to use in order to track the objects. I did not have a hard time in aiming the objects manually as I thought the AZ mount was quite cumbersome at first.

  • Accessories: It comes with two eyepieces (10mm and 25mm), a 3x Barlow lens, and an adjustable tripod and this telescope is almost ready to use.

What Can You See with the Gskyer 600x90?

This telescope has brought so much joy to me and I have spent many hours observing the sky with it. The moon looks amazing and one can see the craters and seas of the moon very clearly. I have also been able to observe Jupiter’s bands and moons and Saturn’s rings. It is not very efficient with the faint galaxies and nebulae but it is ideal for the brighter objects and the normal stargazing.

Design: My Hands-On Experience

Is It Beginner-Friendly?

The Gskyer Telescope 600×90 is very light and quite compact, which is very convenient if you need to move the telescope from one place to another. I had some difficulties to use the Altazimuth mount, but it is quite simple and effective even for a novice. I found the tripod to be quite handy, but I noticed that at higher magnifications there was some vibration which could be quite annoying.

Overall, the design makes sure that even a novice in astronomy can easily get started without getting confused.

Performance: How Well Does It Work?

My Thoughts on Its Performance

This telescope is affordable and I have found it to be quite efficient in its performance. I have found the optical clarity to be quite good for the lunar and planetary observations. I didn’t experience any issues when swapping the eyepieces, which allowed me to switch between a vast field of view and a magnified portion of the sky. Nevertheless, the tracking of fast objects such as satellites is a complicated task due to the constraints of the mount.

Thus, it is a reasonable choice for those who are looking for a simple yet effective device that I enjoyed using as a first-time user.

Optics and Accessories: Are They Good Enough?

What’s Included?

Here’s what comes with the Gskyer 600×90:

  • Two eyepieces: The 10mm is great for detailed views, while the 25mm offers a broader perspective.

  • A 3x Barlow lens: This has been very helpful to me because it increases the magnification of the eyepieces by three times

  • A finderscope: It has been helpful in locating the objects in the sky.

While the included accessories are adequate, I’ve found myself considering upgrades to higher-quality lenses for sharper and brighter views.

Astrophotography: Can It Do the Job?

My Attempt at Astrophotography

If you’re curious about astrophotography, this telescope is a good starter for beginners but it does has some flaws. I’ve managed to get some basic images of the moon and Jupiter using my smartphone adapter, but the Altazimuth mount isn’t good enough for long exposure photo shooting. To achieve quality astrophotography, one has to make significant improvements to their setup.

Affordability: Is It Worth the Price?

My Verdict on Value

With the price of the Gskyer Telescope 600×90 I can say that it has been a great investment. This scope is decent and comes with decent optics, is fairly simple to use, and comes with some decent accessories. While the mount and some accessories could be better, this telescope is hard to beat as first telescope especially for the money.
